WHAT IS PINOT NOIR?
Pinot Noir is a popular light-bodied red that produces fruit-forward wines that are delicate and food friendly.
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
Grown in cooler climates, Pinot noir tends to have a lot of fruit-forward red fruit aromas and flavors of cherry, raspberry and strawberry. Warmer climates produce heavier styles that have more ripe dark fruit notes, smoke and mushroom characteristics. As the wine ages, it develops muted earthy, vegetal notes.
WHERE DOES IT GROW?
France, the United States and Germany are the top three countries growing Pinot noir, although the grapes are grown around the world, primarily in cooler climates where the grape thrives. It’s a finicky grape with thin skin, tight clusters and late ripening, making it a difficult grape to grow, particularly due to is susceptibility to rot. The grape requires continuous vineyard attention, especially when it comes to canopy management.
