WHAT IS PINOT BLANC?
There are some great undiscovered varieties that wine drinkers have yet to embrace, and Pinot blanc is one of them. Like Pinot gris, Pinto blanc is an ancient clone of Pinot noir, and it produces simple yet refreshing white wines. Its most commonly associated with Alsace, where it produces full-bodied, neutral whites.
WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?
The main characteristic of Pinot blanc is round, with slight sweetness due to its low acidity. Benchmark regions include Germany, Northern Italy, Alsace, Austria, and Oregon.
WHERE DOES IT GROW?
Germany and Italy lead the way with production, but there is also acreage in Austria, the Czech Republic, Russia, Slovakia, Moldova and Ukraine. Switzerland, Canada, the United States, Croatia, New Zealand and Hungary also have small plantings.
