VIOGNIER GRAPE PROFILE

WHAT IS VIOGNIER?

Viognier is an aromatic white wine that is known for its floral aromas and terpenes, which are also found in Muscat and Riesling.

WHAT DOES IT TASTE LIKE?

The grape produces intense exotic, floral notes that are soft and lush, with aromas and flavors of peach, apricot, honeysuckle, and orange blossom. In some wine regions, the variety is co-fermented with Syrah, where it can contribute to the color and aroma of the wine.

WHERE DOES IT GROW?

A third of Viognier is grown in France, especially in the Rhone Valley, where Viognier is the only permitted grape for the French wine Condrieu. Outside of the Rhône, Viognier is found in North and South America, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Israel.
