Wine Review: 2010 Seufert Pinot Noir Cuvee
This Pinot noir from the 2010 vintage is from a producer I have always been fond of.
Many Willamette Valley wineries made good wines in this troublesome vintage. The transformation this wine makes over a couple of hours is amazing. First impressions are a razzle dazzle front end and then it goes flat in a disappearing act leaving you with little fruit, a hint of spice and no finish.
Aromas (red fruit and earthy spice) will fool you into expecting the usual Willamette Valley Pinot noir flavor profile; what fruit there was came across as muddled and hot during the initial tasting. For many consumers without the patience to let this wine open up, their experience might not live up to the stellar reputation this winery is generally known for.
Decanting and waiting will pay off, delivering the quintessential Willamette Valley, Oregon Pinot noir pleasure ride to flavor town complete with all the bells, whistles and party favors, like a Fourth of July fireworks show in your mouth. Well mostly just the oohh’s and aahh’s and maybe a little smokiness. There will be an explosion of flavor but you will certainly not get burned.
Rating: Very Good (88) | $20 | 13.0 % ABV
