Wine Review: 2012 Ghost Hill Cellars Pinot Noir Bayless-Bower Vineyard, Willamette Valley, Oregon
Ghost Hill wines got its name from a successful gold miner who failed to exercise the golden rule most carriers of contraband and couriers who transport valuables live by.
Do not ever stop and go to sleep when you are by yourself and in possession of said valuables. The pour soul who made the mistake of stopping for the night to rest on the spot where the winery is now located was robbed of his gold and killed. They say his soul never left that site. Great name, Ghost Hill, and they make small production batches of great wines.
Plum, cherry, and floral nuances compose the components of its aromas. The flavor profile showcases cherry and dried orange peel with a hint of clove. The wine has a medium body, smooth tannins and balanced acidity with a medium length and pleasant finish. Oregon white truffles in a risotto will pair well as would a braised rabbit dish.
Rating: Very Good (89) | $42 | 13.5 % ABV
