Wine Review: 2011 Porta Carmenere Reserva Chile

Considered the county’s signature grape, Chile grows roughly 22,000 acres of Carmenere. The grape itself produces very deep, darkly colored wines with rich, ripe flavors. This wine certainly fits the profile. It will remind you of a red velvet cake with a captivating spicy mid-palate leading to a smooth, long finish. The Quality-to-Price-Ratio (QPR) is off the charts making it a bargain for $10 bucks. Pair it with grilled or smoked meats, tandoori chicken, braised short ribs, or rack of lamb.
