2010 Landmark Overlook Chardonnay
I have to say I am a little embarrassed to mention that this is the first vintage of Landmark Chardonnay I have ever tasted. It is even more embarrassing when I think of how many times I have been to wine tastings in Kenwood, California. Considering the notoriety of this vineyard and how many times this wine has graced the dinner table of our Commander in Chief going back as far as the Reagan administration, I am really surprised I was not aware of this wineries existence. On top of all that, the Landmark Overlook Chardonnay is exactly the style of Chardonnay I enjoy the most. Medium bodied and unfiltered, this wine is whole cluster pressed and fermented in French Oak without the use of cultured yeast. This style of winemaking creates a slightly creamy Chardonnay that has a rich texture with fresh baked bread and citrus zest aroma. It is the perfect pairing for expertly prepared Dungeness crab, Maine lobster or my favorite, a fried soft-shell crab sandwich on white bread with mayonnaise. The appealing lushness of this wine echoes throughout the finish and flavors of pineapple and white peaches linger after each sip. This is one of the best Chardonnay’s I’ve had the pleasure to taste in a while. I sincerely hope the new owners of this winery continue to produce this quality of wine.
