Wine Review: 2010 McKinley Springs Malbec, Horse Heaven Hills, Washington
The 2010 McKinley Springs Malbec relied heavily on the best quality, well grown, high pedigree Horse Heaven Hills fruit obtained during the challenging 2010 vintage. Thanks to grower Rob Andrews winemaker Doug Rowell at McKinley Springs shows he has the skills to pay the bills pulling the old rabbit out of a hat trick with this one. Hopefully, it was a braised rabbit because that would be delicious with this wine.
The forward fruit aromas (think black and blue berries) mingle with freshly ground coffee smells as they waft from your glass after pouring this wine. The flavor train starts rolling with marionberry, dried cherry swirled with a bit of mocha. It will certainly tame even the biggest flavors like slowly smoked; dry rubbed ribs, brisket, sausage links or pork shoulder the classic BBQ staples. Like a plane on the runway, this wine has been cleared for takeoff and MacDaddy approved.
Rating: Very Good | $24 | 14.4% ABV
