With so much Malbec showing up on the shelves of wine retailers, sometimes I feel afloat in a sea of choices as a wine consumer. As popular varieties go, Malbec does not have a long history here in the states despite being the second oldest winery in Argentina. It was a pleasure to be introduced to the Graffigna Centenario Reserve Argentina Malbec early on. It will be a name I look for at wine retailers and on restaurant wine lists.
There is a well-rounded brightness of fruit represented in the aromas and flavors derived from 12 months aging in 85% French and 15% American oak. All of the awesome Malbec flavors are represented in this 2010 Graffigna Centenario Reserve Argentina Malbec; something that has been lacking in a few of the Malbec samples we have tasted as of late. Dark berry, smooth mocha and a velvety broad finish makes this a wine to seek out. Serve with roasted or grilled meats or hearty mushroom dishes.
Rating: Very Good (89) | $14 | 14.2% ABV

I came upon a three liter bottle of the 2010 Graffigna Centenario Reserve soon after release. It rested in my wine refrigerator for years awaiting an occasion to share it with a group. Last night was the long awaited dinner party. To our pleasant surprise the wine was perfect with the Italian pasta main course. The Graffigna aged well after 14 years. The tannins had softened but the wine retained its fruitiness, body and intensity.
Nice!
